Dr. Viorel Gheorghe
Since 2005, Dr. Gheorghe has been the Artistic Director of the Moreno Valley Master Chorale and Orchestra. He has earned his Master of Music Performance degree from the University of Redlands, and his Ph.D. degree in Music Theory from the University of Southern California Los Angeles.
He also studied conducting in Germany with Erich Klein, Horst Gehann and Herbert Blomstedt. He has performed as oboist or conductor with professional orchestras and choirs in both the US and Europe.
Dr. Gheorghe is an active composer and arranger and also is active in the area of music publishing. Most notable are his studies on Semiotics and Semantics of Music and his comprehensive treatise on the Theory of Byzantine Music, the only such work in the English language. He is in demand as a music educator, having taught Music Theory, Music History, Choral Music, Instrumental Techniques and Orchestration classes at the University of Redlands, USC, La Sierra University, UCR, and RCC.
Currently, Dr. Gheorghe is both the Artistic Director and Conductor for the Moreno Valley Master Chorale as well as the Loma Linda Symphony.
